Layers of Fear requires DirectX 12 for the best experience. Windows 10/11 natively support DirectX 12, but it is also important that your graphics card also supports it. It is also highly recommended to have the latest drivers installed.
You can check it by performing DxDiag, as described in 'How to create a DxDiag report'.
However, in this case, just go to Display tab: the left side contains information about the GPU type and amount of memory. On the right side there is information about drivers version, date and supported feature levels that can tell you about your DirectX version: If 12_1 or 12_0 is missing, then unfortunately your graphics card does not support DirectX 12 and you cannot run Layers of Fear.
