Firstly, please make sure that your PC meets the Layers of Fear system requirements.
If the requirements are met, please try the solutions below:
- Download and install the latest Windows updates. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/get-the-latest-windows-update-7d20e88c-0568-483a-37bc-c3885390d212
- Reinstall your GPU drivers. To do so completely, follow these steps:
- Download Display Driver Uninstaller at https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html and run it to remove previous versions of drivers.
- Download the newest drivers for your GPU.
- Install downloaded drivers and reboot your computer.
- Uninstall all the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable that you have installed. Once it's done, install the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable packages from the link below starting from the oldest ones (skip the "arm" files). Launch all the executables as Administrator. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
- Disable all unnecessary apps before launching the game (especially apps with overlay) such as:
- GeForce Experience
- Riva Tuner
- MSI Afterburner
- MSI Gaming app
- Fraps
- etc.
- Please try launching Layers of Fear in a clean boot mode. Here is how to perform clean boot: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135/
- Please make sure compatibility mode is off for Steam.exe
- Go to Steam installation folder example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam.
- Right click Steam.exe > Properties.
- Go to the Compatibility tab and make sure ‘Run this program in compatibility’ mode for is not checked.
- Click Change setting for all users near the bottom of the window.
- Click Apply.
- Restart your computer.
